If you read car articles, I am sure you have encountered the term “momentum car.” It is used to describe a good handling car that lacks power. On the racetrack, a momentum car could, in theory, allow the driver to carry more speed through the corners to make up for the lack of acceleration power on the straights. But in everyday driving, since it is not wise to take high-speed corners on the streets, a momentum car has unfortunately also become an euphemism for a slow car.
When it comes to car aesthetic, the term “stance” is likely used. Stance refers to how the wheels fit into the wheel wells and the height of the suspension. Many car owners like to use bigger wheels with low profile tires while lowering the height of the car suspension to improve the stance, often disregarding that the medications likely compromise the car’s handling and ride comfort. Hence, you see the phase “all about the stance.”
Another term that you hear a lot is “confidence inspiring.” It suggests that the car handles so well that you feel more confidence in going faster and faster. This term is probably overused; it could result in people believing they are much better drivers than they really are.
My daily driver, a 2013 Scion FR-S, is the epitome of the “momentum car.” It happened to be lowered; the ride quality keeps my chiropractor happy, but at least the handling is still superb. As a result, I often find myself driving a little faster than I should.
Then again, I appreciate that the FR-S is a true “momentum car.” I can have so much fun in a low-power car without risking losing my driving privileges. Just the other day, I was driving on the oldest freeway in the country – the winding stretch of the 110 Freeway from Pasadena toward downtown LA. It was so exhilarating; I feel like I was driving a hundred miles an hour on the Arroyo Seco Grand Prix, until I look down on the speedometer. 68 mph! That is what I have been talking about!
If you also like to drive a slow car “fast,” I highly recommend a fun “momentum car” like a Toyota GR86 or a Mazda MX-5.

I’ve been seeing you in the morning around SG for a few months!! Nice car!
